Another opening, another show!

The curtain went up on our latest show Monday, January 11, at 6 p.m.  Wow, how nice of Zoey to start early, not like last year when it was 11:00 p.m.  Zoey did a good job with the first four puppies, but then everything stopped.  We weren't sure if there were more.  Our thoughts were that she had looked much more pregnant than the number of puppies indicated.  However, she was not in distress, and was eating, drinking, and sleeping, so we thought we would check on her frequently in case she was just resting.  The next day, however, no new puppies.  Given that Zoe was exhibiting some odd behavior that only I would probably notice, we decided that a trip to the vet was in order.  Almost 24 hours later, Zoey gives birth to two more puppies.  Although one was not alive, the last one was!    We ended up with four boys:  Higgins, Pickering, Alfie, and Freddy, and one girl, Eliza.  After all this fuss, Zoey was gladly singing "Wouldn't It Be Loverly".
Zoey with four puppies, about 9 p.m. on Monday.
Five puppies!  Wednesday at 2 days old.  Notice Freddy at the top of the pile.  He is really only 1 day old.
Zoey is very protective of her puppies for the first 5 days.  After that, she's all "Can you watch these guys for a while?  I see a bumper with my name on it."
